History

Some time during the autumn of 2003, a meeting was arranged to gauge the interest of founding a photography club within Åbo Akademi University, since the old club FÅTÅ(?) did not exist anymore. Since there was interest in founding a club, a vote was held to decide what the name would be, and the name with most votes was Pictura.

The club was officially founded on the 31st of October 2003, with the pioneering board members: Mattias Nordling as President, Thomas Byholm as Vice-President, Jonas Westerlund as Secretary, Thomas Soininen as Treasurer, and Otto Långvik as Materials Manager.

The first trip was to Runsala, which was arranged on the 8th of November 2003, the second to the Botanical Garden on the 24th of January (said tradition has existed since the beginning). During the same spring, a photography contest and an excursion to Åbo castle was also arranged. During autumn 2004, Pictura arranged a photography exhibition in Kåren (19.9). A beginner course for photography was arranged 25.9, the first photomarathon 2.10, and a trip to Vanhalinna 13.10. The Botanical Garden and Kustö ruins were also visited in 2005.
